Life

Dili is a coastal capital city on a small plain surrounded by mountains and sea. The beauty of nature and the remarkable history of one of the world’s youngest countries makes Timor Leste a fascinating place to live.

Dili offers a decent quality of life for most expats. Security is good, politics are relatively stable, air pollution is minimal, and access to ocean and hills means beaches, mountain exploration, and other fun activities. Families can live comfortably here.

Residing in a small island nation that is still developing its economy and identity does have downsides. Access to outside goods and quality health care is limited. Maintaining an international-standard life can be expensive. Facilities and services sometimes seem inadequate to outsiders, and less-than-frequent flights can make connections a challenge when flying into or out of the country.

Nonetheless, Timor Leste is a welcoming place for those who come with an open mind, flexible attitude, and adventurous spirit. There’s a lot to like about life in Dili!
